Asia Cup

Afghanistan drew with Vietnam 1-1 in Group C of AFC Asian Cup qualifiers in Tajikistan on Tuesday, in what was first meeting between the nations in history.

The first goal of the match came in the second half when Vietnam’s Nguyen Van Toan headed the ball into the net at 64th minute.

But the lead was nullified shortly by Afghans as captain Hassan Amin struck from outside the penalty area, only five minutes after the first goal at Republican Central Stadium, Dushanbe.

The sides went to the game as Afghanistan were 28th in the AFC ranking while Vietnam were 22th.

A total of 24 teams in six groups are competing in the third round of qualifiers for AFC Asian Cup.

The two top nations from each of the groups will make it to the major tournament in UAE in 2019.

Afghanistan will face Cambodia in their next fixture on June 13. Afghanistan have won two matches they have played against the side.
